The last ”Students and Parents in Partnership” meeting in Birmingham

On 13th May 2012, a group of 6 students and 4 teachers left for England to take part in Comenius meeting organized in Birmingham by two partner schools: Smith’s Wood Sports College and Lyndon School Humanities College. On Monday morning we were greeted at Smith’s Wood Sports College where we watched a brilliant opening ceremony prepared by the school’s students and teachers. We also had an opportunity to get familiar with the British educational system and to visit the school building, which proved to be very modern and impressive. We came back to Smith’s Wood in the evening to taste traditional British food which had been prepared by students and their parents.

We spent Tuesday, 15th May in London. During the long stroll in the city centre, we saw St James’ Park, the Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. We went past the seat of the British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street and we took several pictures at Trafalgar Square. We also visited Covent Garden, where we had some time to relax, eat lunch, do the shopping and watch a performance of local artists.

On Wednesday, 16 th May, we met Lady Mayor of the city, who is a very kind and hospitable person. We sat in the comfortable armchairs, which are normally used by the members of the City Council, and listened to a short speech. In the afternoon, we went to William Shakespeare’s birthplace - Stradford-upon-Avon. We visited the writer’s house and we walked down the charming streets of the town.

Thursday, 17th May, was a very exciting day. We spent it in Drayton Manor. The bravest students and teachers had a go at all the theme park’s roller coasters. The more careful ones visited its zoo or went to its 4D cinema. Everybody enjoyed the shopping in the centre of Birmingham later that afternoon.

We spent the last day of the meeting, Friday 18th May, at Lyndon School Humanities College. First, we were shown round the school by its students. We were amazed at the great size of the school buildings. Later, we watched the closing ceremony – a wonderful music performance prepared by Lyndon’s teachers and students. It was noticeable that the school specializes in performing arts. During the ceremony we also watched a film which had been prepared by our school in order to sum up the project and thank our dear friends from all the partner schools. Although the day was really nice, we were all a bit sad. Bearing in mind that it was the last meeting in the project, we knew we’d have to say goodbye to our friends soon.
